Where is This Old House when you need them?

The major renovation is about to take place! The architect is on board. The general contractors will be ready to go the beginning of March. The floor re-finisher has given us a bid and we should be ready to get started, right? I don't think so! We have been trying to have a mason come and look at our chimneys and 7 fireplaces. Finally after nearly 2 months, he makes it out to have a look. He told us he builds new fireplaces and doesn't want to do the work. That would be fine if there were other craftsmen within a one and a half hour drive who were qualified to tackle the job.
Now what?....... We have a wonderful example of Victorian architecture with original woodwork, original stained glass windows and fireplaces. It is a home with historical presence. It has great bones but is a far cry from reaching it's full potential without a proper mason. Where is This Old House when you need them?
Enjoy a photo I snapped in the parlor before the previous owner moved out. I can't wait to get to that ceiling molding and strip it to get the detail of the wood to pop! Yes those are 9 foot pocket doors off to the right. Can you just see the house decorated in period style? Oh to dream and imagine!! Oh right, I better get back to stripping wallpaper and woodwork. Hmmph....reality sets in.

Beautiful B&B

This is our neighbor's house and it was built just before our house was built. It is now a Bed and Breakfast. That is our house off to the left, peaking through the tree. Some days I get overwhelmed with the amount of work that our new (old) house needs and then look next door to see what the potential is for our house to be a grand house once again.

What have I been doing with my time? Cleaning, cleaning and did I say cleaning? I wanted to get a few rooms in good shape so that my husband could move into the house. He will begin wiring or should I say rewiring in the near future. It had been some time since the outside walkways etc... have had a thorough cleaning outside. I have been working on getting things neat and tidy so that we don't track so much dirt into the house. There is so much to do!

We have also been getting plans down on paper to add more plumbing which is sorely needed before we take our ideas to the architect. The contractor tells us he won't be finished before June so I have no idea when we will actually get to move into the house. The floors will need to be refinished and the contractor who does floors won't even begin to tell us how long that will take. He just chuckles because there is so much to do!

I'll let you know how things are going with the This Old House from time to time. In the meantime, enjoy this photo!
