Gift Card Holders for Pounding

Are you scatching your head and thinking that you know what a gift card holder is but what the

heck is a pounding? Don't be too concerned because I am about to clarify things for you right now. Years ago in rural communities, when a new member or family came to town, a pounding might be held as a way to welcome that person or family to the area. The townspeople would bring a pound or several pounds of pantry staples such as flour, cornmeal, butter and sugar to stock the pantry of the newcomer. In this instance, the pounding was held a few weeks ago for our new minister and his family.
Things have changed over the years and food staples like cookie mixes and other prepackaged foods are placed in gift bags and decorative baskets as gifts. Gift cards to grocery stores and restaurants are also popular gift items for the event.
I chose to give the gift cards and couldn't let them leave the house without a paper crafted cover! I prepared a cover for each family member so you will see a total of six in all between this blog post and the next one.

oh goodness, the images running through my mind when I read your post title! it makes me giggle!!!

but enough of that, your work is wonderful! I am sure it is going to be greatly appreciated by your new pastor and family.

okay, so what kind of gift card do you put in for a pounding - maybe something to Dick's sporting goods or a coupon for a free Pay Per View boxing match?! maybe a movie certificate for Rocky.... sorry, couldn't resist! it truly is a kind, thoughtful idea!

I have attended more than one pounding in my day! We used to do them a lot for newly married people. It's great that you included the whole family with their own gift card.

These gift card holders are adorable, and I learned something today, so that's always a plus. And I love how you did one for each of the family members, how thoughtful.
