Reach for the Stars Card

Today I have a SCS sketch challenge for you! I'm still using stamps, dies and paper from the ODBD November release. I know this doesn't happen often, but I actually made an A2 size card with going gray card stock. I didn't have any rose colored paper left to go with this Victorian Velvet stamp pad so I improvised and made my own colored paper. All I did was rub the stamp pad onto white paper and you can see that I made two colors of paper. The star die cut piece was colored several times and let dry to get a darker shade. I colored the paper first and then used the ODBD Flourished Star Pattern die to cut out filigree star. I used the large star from the same die set and cut a silver star too. The rectangle die was used to cut the star paper from the Winter Collection paper and layered together.  I added white five pointed star brads to the center of the small stars.

I used the large star stamp from the ODBD Silk Stars stamp set and cut it out with the ODBD Splendorous Stars Die set. I scored and folded to give it dimension. Then I filled the back with glue from my glue gun and attached it to the card front. I stamped the sentiment from the Reach for the Stars stamp set and again used another sentiment from the same set on the inside.  It's the famous Casey Kasem quote. I added ribbon and pearled lace under the sentiment and attached all of this to the front of the card base. I added a large half pearl to the center of the large star too!

A Look Back at Our Daily Bread November Release

It's time once again to look at some wonderful projects created by the Our Daily Bread Designs Design Team! We are preparing for the Christmas holiday with projects galore! The November release will have you seeing stars!
I've taken the Snowflake Stars and Come Let Us Adore Him stamp sets to create these double sided Bethlehem star ornaments. They are sturdy enough to use year after year and may have you handing some down to your next generation of family members! For this blue star, I stamped two images of the largest Snowflake Star with blue dye based ink. I cut them out using the Splendorous Stars Dies and scored them down the center of each mountain (point) and valley so that I get a three dimensional star. I fill the void in the back with hot glue. While the glue dries, I choose corsage pins or head pins and some glass beads for additional decoration. Taking a star, I add dots of hot glue and place the beaded pins where I want them. Once that is dry, I glue the two halves together. If you work quick, you may use hot glue for this. If you want a bit more time to line things up you may use a wet quick dry glue, tacky glue or multi purpose glue.

Now it's time to add the sparkle. I used a fine dry glitter on the blue ornament and a gold glitter glue on the burgundy ornament. I found that I needed two coats of glitter glue for good coverage. I added cording for the hanger and topped off the top of the cording with a bow made of the same material. This way, the tip of the branch from which the ornament hangs is also decorative. The last step is to add the bling to the center of the star and call it a day! You don't have to use round bling either. I'm working on one right now where I used large square bling and turned it on an angle like a diamond shape. It looks great too!

On this ornament, I stamped and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I love the look but you do have to be careful when scoring and folding the card stock. Otherwise, the embossing could be damaged.
Every year I place an ornament on a package for my mom, sister and daughter. I think these will be the perfect ornament for 2014!
If you haven't made the rounds yet, make sure you stop by the ODBD blog and visit my other sister sticks to see what other beautiful projects they have made for you! November '14 Our Daily Bread Designs Release

Welcome once again to a new release for Our Daily Bread Designs! Let me begin by saying how much I adore this release! There are so many possibilities for wonderful and beautiful Christmas cards, gift tags, ornaments, Advent calenders etc.  This looks like a normal card but it isn't. I'll explain this fancy fold in a few minutes . First, let's get the prize information taken care of so that everyone will be eligible for some ODBD goodies!

This fancy fold looks a bit like a gate fold when it is closed but it's really a Z fold instead! It's made on a card base of pearlescent gold so that it sparkles for the Christmas season and topped with the new winter collection 2014 paper.! I heat embossed the star using the new Snowflake Stars stamp set and cut it out using the new Splendorous Stard Die.then scored it on the back so that it would pop up with dimension. I had to be careful while doing this so as not to damage the embossing. I filled the back of the star with a bit of hot glue so that it would keep the shape. If it were left hollow, it would be smooshed in the mail.
I mounted the star onto die cuts from the ODBD Vintage Flourish pattern Die and the ODBD Vintage Labels Die.. I added 1/4 inch dimensional foam to the back side of this stack of die cuts and attached it to the left flap of the card. I went to work adding the poinsettias and swirl foliage with the ODBD Peaceful Poinsettias dies and the ODBD  Fancy Foliage dies. I must say that these two dies are staples for the Holiday Season since I can use any type of Papers to create so many colors of flowers. It's more versatile than using mulberry flowers. Here I have used pearlescent gold vellum and pearlescent mallard green card stock for the floral work. This look is very pretty indeed!!! The transparency of the flowers is quite elegant!

For the inside, I stamped the sentiment on cream card stock and embossed with gold embossing powder. Adding another flower in the corner finished everything off nicely. For the center of the Z panel, I used the star paper from the stack and sponged the edges to blend it with the swirl paper. It's a nice contrast and adds a bit more interest. This card is an A2 size when closed.
This next card measures a full 5x7 inches. I started with a royal blue card stock as the base and added two die cut panels from the Vintage Flourish Pattern dies which I cut in a white pearlescent card stock. I used two of the new dies for the top layer. Again I cut the Flourished Star Pattern with white pearlescent card stock and added pearls. The next layer was also cut with the same die using the royal blue card stock. Finally, the top layer was stamped using the Silk Stars Stamp Set. I used a blue dye based ink to load the stamp and then I used a darker blue marker to add the shadows to the fully inked stamp. After I stamped the image, I used a mid tone marker the blend everything together. I took another blue marker and added the lines down the center of each star point. This gave me a realistic looking dimensional star which is flat in reality. I cut this out using the Splendorous Stars Dies and topped it off with a large half pearl. A bit of ribbon across the bottom with the sentiment (cut with the Ornate Borders and Flower Dies) finishes off the front.
On the inside, I layered blue and white card stock with die cuts from the Beautiful Borders and Vintage Labels Dies. I used sentiments from the new Come Let Us Adore Him Stamp Set.

These are products from the new release which I used.
